I’ve been asked to have a go at repairing an American Flyer 303.

When power is applied, the motor just groans. I thought it might have been brushes, but they seem to be in tact.

Further investigation reveals a red glow inside the motor when power is applied.

Guessing that the motor may be cooked, I’m in search of a replacement motor.

Does anyone know a source for parts ?

Here’s a picture of the locomotive and another of the motor.

I’m not a train guy, I’m just a guy with a little electronics experience who was asked to give it a go. At my train skill level, I think I’m looking for a straight up replacement.

I watched the video that sirfoldalot recommended. The guy in the video is several pay grades ahead of me.

If it were my train, I might be willing to break it down, knowing that I might make things worse, but since it’s not mine I need to find a safer path, or punt.

if I could find a new motor, I’d have a go at replacing it, but I’m not to try re-building the motor.

Agree with Sherrel show that video to the owner and just do it Looks simple enough even if you could find a motor You would have to take it apart If you have electronics know how you're half way there

That's why I said show that video to the owner Let him decide He or she may say go for it

Even if you can't fix It's not working now so nothing lost
