Sorry to hear it didn't go right the first time around but that seems to happen to all of us from time to time. I'm sure it will be nice and smooth this time.

Orange peel indicates the paint is drying before it hits the car. Add more thinner or reduce pressure, or both.

Been there, done that.

I was able to find time to do some work on the box car.
So here goes with some new pics. All of the detail parts are on and all that is next is dullcoat and the weathering.

I'm asking for your feed back good and bad. I'm not looking for a rivet count just the over all look if it is right.

I have one question to ask of everyone here.
Is this a custom job?
Is it a super detail?

I used Roundhouse box car that i had to strach build the door.
Plano coupler platform and cut levers.
Kadee roller bearing trucks.
Detail West coupler pockets.
ALine step's.
Cal Scale air hoses

Not quite "super detail" as you did not replace the grabs, or even the brake wheel, nor add brake rigging. So its more in the lines of a "detailing" with "custom painting".

In any case, is a MIGHTY fine boxcar!

The paint looks good although it will look even better with some weathering and dullcoat.

I agree with Josh's assesment of what to call it. It's more than just detailed with the scatchbuilt door but super-detailed usually means replacing everything possible with closer to scale items, grabs and brake rigging being two big ones. I'd call it custom modified and painted.

Did you use Kadee couplers? Just take this as constructive criticism...but the coupler on the left end looks to have a bad sag...might be the box or may need a shim...it looks like one of the Mc henry couplers though not sure. You didnt paint the wheels did ya? I agree with Josh and Jim on their assesments. Some dullcoat and chalks for weather will do ya good unless this considered your era and fresh out of the shop...

Yes I plan to spray dullcoat and weather with chalk and I might try using maker pens for the rust and streaks. The trucks and wheels will get detailed when I weather the rest of the car.
I have made 2 of these cars one will get the full weather treatment and one will just get dullcoat as if out of paint 2-3 weeks.

The couplers are McHenry's And it was the coupler box that caused the sag. I have it mounted with a screw so I will shim it to level it out.

I will now change the brake wheel to something closer to scale and see if I can find one that looks like the prototype.

On the next 2 cars I build I will change out the ladders and grabs for a more detailed look. The main reason I asked about super deatailing is I have been kicking around the ideal of selling some on Ebay. My LHS has a consingment section and was thinking of placeing some there for sale.

Thank you for all the fead back constructive criticism it was what I asked for.
