This could knock the wind out of a couple of other "upcoming" Shays...
... particularly that one that is now YEARS late ("KR"?) and probably isn't going to make it...
Bachmann cannot rely on previous good groundwork and reputation on previous iterations of this model....regrettably. Both their Climax and Shay were problem children. If they can claim the high ground with an all-metal drivetrain, then I might want to spring for one, although I'd prefer the Climax (I have a Rivarossi Heisler with an EU LokSound installed by the factory, a rather nice locomotive). I don't know anything about the BLI product which I believe has yet to arrive or the other company that began asking for interested patrons about six years ago now...maybe more?
since the mid 2000s the bachmann locos have been rock solid interms of running & reliability so im assuming they are doing the same here

Personally (I have a ho scale climax) and I highly doubt I will ever buy another Bachman locomotive. The climax worked for about 6-8 months and the gears went bad, broke, etc. I tried contacting them with no answer what so ever. Looked for replacement parts and none are being made (at least I can not find a supplier). So it sets on the shelf. Regrettably I really had high hopes for that little climax.
I don’t know about other products from Bachman and I’m sure some are good but they have put a bad taste in my mouth sorta speak and I’ll never buy a locomotive from them again. The climax is DCC and sound so it cost some money and for that much, it sure should of lasted longer than 6-8 months that’s for sure.
Now with all that said, if Simone knows where I can get parts to fix it I’d sure like to hear from you. It is a good looking model just the running gear sucks in my mind.
Proudly modeling the CM, MT & SL in HO Scale
My only gripe with a lot of the newer Bachmann steam (mid 2000s and later) is that they seem to be very lightweight and slippery, especially on a mountain railroad, like mine. That fact aside, I can't complain about the motors and gears on them, they seem to run smooth and quiet.
I have the most recent NYC Hudson and it runs smooth, sounds great and very well detailed. Most are right about bachmann since the 2000's though!!!
The only problem I found was the when I took it apart the wheel sets don't have bearings on the drive wheel axel's!!! It has and still runs smooth since put on the rails.
Dave
I sure do hope they don’t make a Holman horror
