Need some guide wires

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Check Lance Mindheims website. He just added support guide wires to his FP&T structure using .039 spring wire. This wire can usually be found where they sell RC planes. I have used this as well as thinner wire with success.

The reason I originally suggested wire instead of string is that string or thread invariably droops over time. String absorbs moisture and gets longer over time, even if you place it under tension it eventually stretches and droops. Saggy guy wires look worse than having none.

Either will catch dust, and cleaning a wire is a lot easier that fine strings. Spring or music wire (sold at most hobby shops, Michael's or Hobby Lobby) stays very straight and won't droop...ever.
