Need New HO Steam Loco

My old bachmann steamer gave up the ghost today, so I'm looking for replacement suggestions. Only have about $100 to spend (retired, fixed income, etc.) Please recommend something. Thanks.

Either the Bachmann spectrum 2-8-0 or the 4-6-0 would be a ideal replacement in your price range,Excellent runners with nice detail their really hard to beat for the money.

I would agree, although perhaps some others are available with some shopping around. ebay is a good place to spend 20 minutes of 'air' time looking for a bargain. Check out Micro Mark for Spectrum products and modeltrainstuff (which is M. B. Klein's) for those and other brands. trainworld.com has some blow-out bargains that are worth a look. They tend to be a bit abrupt dealing with phone customers, but they are at least known for that and are consistently like that..so don't take it personally...just deal with the information and make a decision to spend without taking up their time and they'll go easy on you.

Bachmann also has a "lifetime" warranty. Costs vary depending on the engine. You can check that out on the Bachmann website.

All the Bachmann steamers (spectrum) are good. I have purchased several from Ebay with no problems. What size was your old steamer? What radius track do you have? 22in or 18in ?? Ihc also makes some very good steamers that run fine on 18in radius. The 4-8-2, 4-6-4, and 2-10-2 are all good. Not quite as good detail as the Bachmann Spectrum but good runners.
On Ebay the seller Thefavoritespot is an autherized Bachmann dealer with some very good prices.
