Thank you all for the kind words although my work cant compare with the work you guys can do.
Great work, that was worth waiting for!
Ok Gentlemen I need some honest opinions on the coal mine scene I am doing. I would like to use the truck loading building that came with the kit but it cant be used the way it is layed out in the kit, the only place I can set it up is on the opposite side of the tracks from where the conveyer hooks into the main building,my concern is that the conveyer looks to long.I have made a temporary conveyer so I could post a photo. What do you guys think.
I will add a road probably gravel going from the loader to the upper right of the last photo which will end at the wall I will need to figure how to end the road there and make it look like it continues somewhere off the layout. Thanks for any help.
I don't think it's too long.
At Consolidated Coal pier in Baltimore the Conveyer system reaches from the mechanical sampler all the way to the pier to load the ships and barges, about 500 yards maybe more. It's been more then 30 years since I worked there.
Hey Johne the layout's looking great!
I think the conveyor is just fine, you've done a lot of work since I've seen your thread!
You've also surpassed the progress on my layout, hopefully the cooler weather will chase me into the chamber of the sacred rails...
Thanks Guys I think I will proceed with the plan.

The coal operation is looking great!! Wish I had room for something like that. lasm
Personally, I don't think the conveyor looks too long at all. There are a hundred examples of "very long" conveyors in real life. I think it looks great as is.
Your mine actually looks a lot like mine:

The conveyor actually looks not bad, the color of the makeshift one may be throwing you off. This will all come together if you do some weathering.

Lynn you might be right once I make the right conveyer and add the legs to support it I think it will look pretty good.
Hi all
I have been pretty busy winterizing the boat for the past few days but managed to get a little work done on the layout.
I made the conveyer for the truck loader think it looks pretty good.
I also did some work on the truck road to the loader the wood piece on the rightend will eventually be a bridge leading off the layout.
A couple more photos of the area.

Your photos are great, Johne, and the complex is really coming together!! Thanks for posting, lasm
Impressive work Johne! Congratulations and i really admire the rock formations you made.
Thanks Guys I really appreciate the comments makes me want to continue to practice and hopefully get better at this hobby.
I really like the "spilt coal" on the ballast, gives even more reality to the over all scene. Great job on the conveyor also.
Really nice work in the main complex, like the overall scene. Did you use rock molds or another technique for the rock outcroppings.

I used tin foil for the molds and placed the moulds on the mountain while still wet that allowed me to bend the moulds to match the mountain contours.
