My New Layout

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

So Cajon posted at the same time as me. I like his better...

I actually like both of them I am using Unitrack so some things may or may not work. I will revise the layout and see what I can make work. Thank you for your time and interest it is truly appreciated.

Andy thank you for the help I will do a revised drawing and see how it will work in the space the other constraint is I am using Unitrack.

Why are you using Unitrack? Why not just use flex track, its WAY easier to build with that, and you're not constrained to sectional track. And use cork roadbed under the track. And get some Peco N scale code 80 switches. You can either use Peco switch machines, or you can throw them by hand. Thats what I use.

I think I like this one the best so far it is a combination of what you guys gave me. I am doing a full size paper mock up of the plans as they evolve and they are tighter on the mock up then they look on the plan I put up here I guess the scale on scarm is not that close. This one fits nice on the actual board. What do you guys think.

Overall, I like it! You did remove the staging area for the coal mine, and with current design that same staging track can be used for the lumber yard. Its not needed, but if you have the track, go ahead and do it. It could make things much easier for you later.

Speaking of "if you have the track", you said earlier that you were making a list of parts still needed. May I suggest using a few pieces of flex track in the areas of 1) top left blue track where there are a number of small sections to achieve the curve needed, 2) bottom of inside red line where again there are a few small sections, 3) yard tracks. The reason I say yard tracks is because if the yards are loaded up, it will be difficult to not only see if a car is derailed but also difficult to rerail. By using flex in these areas, the opportunity for derailments are severely lowered, therefore lowering the chances of needing to see or fix derailments. Of course, use your sections first. I know someone suggested selling your own stock, but if you have it, use it. I see no need to spend a bunch of money to replace what you already had. You had a pretty nice layout before, so I trust you know what you're doing with sections.

Build it! I look forward to following along!

I did not want to elimanate the staging track but as I was looking at it I realized the track going to the mine is on an incline going up to the mountain so the staging track would be on the same incline and that would make for a run away train LOL. The parts list is mostly a couple of turnouts and a couple of odd pieces of track. I have 98% of what I need and I have a bad habit of changing things in mid stream if I dont like the way it looks so flex track is not a good option for me.Thank you for your observations its always a pleasure to speak with you.

.

I like your plan and you put a lot of thought into it, however I don't think it is a bad thing to change your mind.

I have used and re-used some of my flex track , and bought most of it used to start with. It does make some of the areas easier to fit.

Thanks for participating on the site!! lasm

That is why I love my Lionel Fastrack, instant gratification!

Post some pictures when and if you can.
