My first DCC diesel with sound just arrive, a BLY GP20, CWRY... unbelievably cool.. I never knew I get get this kind of realism...

Engine sits there, F9 then the engine starts, maybe a little radio chatter, then you hear the air compressor, then I start moving forward and it starts rpming up... really cool, horn, bell and all the other sounds I have not checked, really neat!

Plus if I had a dc master control I could do most of that on DC track

I really like that it kind of simulates all the start up, running and shutdown noises and tons of other sounds.

Does scale trains have this level of detail for sounds?
What other diesels have this level of detail?
I'm hooked!

The newer Rapido engines also have "flange squeal".
 


Sound is definitely the 4th dimension !
I discovered sound after equiping my old DC locos with decoders (Soundtraxx Blunamis).
I'll never go back to silent locos.
Amazing choices, all sounds and reverbs ajustable and an equalizer to adjust to the type of speaker you have or install.
This is'nt a commercial guys, I don't work for them, only my feelings.
 
I have so many DC locomotives from 75+ years that my current (probably my last) layout was set up with block wiring. Several years ago, my wife asked why my steam locomotives don't go "choo-choo". So, I installed some sound decoders in five of my steamers, added a DCC power setup, with a DPDT master switch on my main control panel so I can change from DC to DCC, depending on what engine I want to run. True, I can't run both at the same time, but, since I have blocks set up, I can, for instance, park a DC loco in one block while running DCC on the rest of the layout.

I definitely agree, having ridden on trains as a kid, there is nothing like the sound of a diesel horn in the darkness of a Pullman berth at night, or a steam locomotive.

Can you ramp up the diesel somehow in eight steps, as (I'll guess you can) with a Protothrottle?
