Model Railroad Forums offline

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Is it just me or does the forum go off line quite a bit, especially during the weekends. It seems very sporadic and I was just curious, is that when the forum maintenance occurs?...I don't think it is just my computer and connection
Its happening to most everyone. Its been ongoing for a while now. We have discussed it numerous times in the Coffee Shop.

Usually it happens in the morning but by later afternoon it does better. Today it has persisted pretty much all day.

So its not just you, or your hardware.

This site and others owned by Vertical Scope have been screwed up for months but they don't do anything to fix it. It's what happens when you bite off more than you can chew.

What makes you think this forum is owned by Vertical Scope?

I don't know who Verticalscope is, but if you'll let me know, I'll be happy to send them the server bill.

Until they pay for the server, this place is "independently owned and operated", along with Railroadforums.com, by one person, who loses money on it, and has a day job that pays his bills and takes up a lot of his time.

He's the fellow known as Bob here. I think that he also has a gardening website, geared towards folks in the PNW and Vancouver area. But I haven't been there in years and I cannot find the bookmark.

The gardening website still exists, but everyone migrated to Facebook, so unlike this place, it's totally dead. Maybe when I retire I'll have time to get some activity going there.

My mistake Bob. My apologies.

Because this site looks like so many others that use the same or similar software, and the fact it has problems identical to sites owned by VS, and because they have gobbled up so many enthusiasts and hobbyist sites, it was not a stretch to think this was a VS owned site.

Send them the bill anyway. They own so many sites they probably wouldn't know the difference.

There are very few forum software choices out there, so most forums use one of the three or four big ones that are left.

As for the problems, we all fight the same battle, spammers and scammers. They constantly use bots to create fake account and bombard the place with spam. Not only is is annoying, it's expensive, as they use sight resources when they do it. The result is that the place bogs down and doesn't work as well as it could. The only solution is a faster server with more memory and more storage. I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear that costs more money.

It says something else now!
