Hi

I am still new to the forums. I need some help with a pet project. I picked up a Model Power PRR EMD E7. The model didn' thave a motor so i got a chassis with a motor attached. My issue is the trucks. The driver wheels don't have any gears on them. I attached a picture of the chassis and the trucks. Do you have any suggestions for any gears or geared wheel sets that i can use?

I haven't done it with model trains (yet), but I have had luck 3D printing working gears.

This includes rather high-stress applications such as a kids go-cart where the stock Nylon gear stripped out and I 3D printed new ones out of ABS, Nylon, and carbon fiber reinforced Nylon.
I plan on testing 3D resin printed gears for one of my model train repairs - I may also try using the print to make a mold to print in a stronger resin. Long-term, I'd like to get back into lost investment casting where the 3D print is used to make the mold, then melted, dissolved, or burned out.

My main concern in your application would be the best way to get the gear onto the axle, and how to key it in. Without pulling off a wheel, you'd have to do a segmented gear that would fit around the axle in two pieces, then be held together and held in place by glue or a fastener.

Well that is too bad. I do not. Looks like someone had converted it to a dummy unit. My best guess is that you would need to find another whole unit for parts. I don't see any just "parts" on ebay.

If you have calipers, measure the shaft and then get a rough estimate of the distance to one of those other gears. Maybe Athearn may have something that will fit. Send them an email. They seem to be quite helpful.

I sent you a "direct message" about parts I can let you have for the cost of postage.
