Hi,
Looking for gears and or geared wheel sets for a Mantua #351601 2-6-6-2 kettle.
Does anyone know of stock or can you suggest a possible source or alternative part?
I believe the part number to be: #SSM10282
One of two drive gears currently cracked, it looks to be a 28 tooth gear

Thanks,
Geoff

Two things is can suggest (having similar experience of not finding parts for Mantua), train shows, these are your best bet, since many modelers sell used parts, many times all mixed together in one cardboard box, and eBay. Another thing i can suggest is to replace all gears with NWSL gear and worm sets. Not sure how skillful you are in pulling out driving wheels off an axle and quartering them back on, but with NWSL quartering tool, you can definitely learn a new skill and you will have metal gears which are probably indestructible.

Hi,
Thanks for the comeback.
I've tried eBay, no joy.
The only train show I'll attend this winter is the Barrie-Allandale Railway Modellers Show in Barrie, Ontario(Feb 15-16): so thanks for the suggestion, There are other train shows in Ontario but Barrie at 550kms is the closest.
I'll also look into NWSL.

Cheers
Geoff

Have you tried Trainz.com? They have a fairly good sized parts section on their page. I don't know if they would have any Mantua parts, but the might have something compatible. Another thought, if all else fails, it might be possible to find a parts only unit of the same model that you could use to fix yours.

Thanks, I'll try them even though I really don't want to deal with them after they ripped me off on an eBay sale 3 years ago. I will keep an eye on various sales sites looking for a parts. I have two of these, but don't know where I put it, so I may have similar issues with one or both axles on it!

Thanks,
Geoff

I’m not positive but I think when I called bowser a couple of years ago they said they actually had three different lines but I do not remember what or maybe they have something that will work
