Ok, how's this? I named the file S165 since the USATC S160 was a 2-8-0.

One problem is that from what i've read and seen in pictures, there were a lot more "heavy" mikados build than "light' ones. And a "heavy" mikado model would be a great base to have for say anthracite burning eastern coal carriers, like Jersey Central. IHC did the same thing, they put out the"light" mikado version.

Take a closer look at the cab.

Found this on fleaBay, I couldn't resist it at £60.
A 2-8-2 Light Mikado.

All the detailing intact, still in their plastic bags.
Have you run this loco yet ?
These were famous for having cracked drive axle gears. Replacement gears are available at Northwest Shortline.
I have rebuilt ( re-geared ) a couple of these, one being their Light Pacific loco. I also added track power pick-ups to the tender.
They are great runners when everything is fixed. The locos track better if you replace the driver axle springs with ones that are less stiff.
There is an old issue of Model Railroader with an article about how to up-grade these locos for better running.
I have about a dozen of these on my shelf to go through. As for me, I thought they were "good enough" for details. Some years back, you could find these at train shows and on e-bay for $40 to $65 as they were sold with the bad gear issue, but not so much now.

Have fun & enjoy....John

No not yet, still in the building phase of my new layout. Thanks for the warning about the replacement gears, hopefully they're OK, because USPS is making a killing on postage to the UK. I wanted some cab interiors for my SD70s, which were $9.67 each, and I need 3, postage was $63 for ONE. Needless to say, I'll do without.
