Mail Call! Railway Post Office, commonly abbreviated as RPO has rolled in!

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

This is neat, a friend from work that does Lionel trains sent me a nice 100 anniversary Canadian tire diecast car. In the package was some old HO cars as well, mainly additional presidents choice cars, but there was also a purina car which I was looking for. A jewel not expected was this old Atlas track plan guide….wish I had this when I started up again. If anyone needs an easy Atlas track plan, just ask.

I don't model the San Francisco peninsula (arguably, I don't really model anything...), but I grew up in the Bay Area, and when I browsed an online shop that I hadn't looked at recently, I noticed they still had some Walthers Proto gallery cars in stock. These were used in commuter service from the former SP station near downtown San Francisco, south to San Jose. The service became Caltrain in 1985, and many of these cars survived until that era. I believe this run of HO scale cars came out last year sometime and Walthers also made them in CNW colors.

So now I have a completely unnecessary commute train. 🤣

I model an area of Central Wisconsin. Growing up in Chicagoland I rode the commuter trains of the NW, Rock Island and the IC long before Metra became a thing. I have been tempted for years to buy some commuter cars and run them on my layout based in Wisconsin. You have triggered that thinking again.

Minocqua to Wausau to Stevens Point to Fond du lac to Milwaukee. Hot damn…

That’s a nice looking bridge/viaduct!

…and the engine and cars too!

I've been tempted to get some of the CNW gallery cars too--I used to live in Illinois south of Chicago and have some CNW equipment, including an E8 around here somewhere. That was back before I decided on more of a western theme for my layout. I also thought about getting a Rock Island E unit and some of their gallery cars when they made them in HO several years ago. That late era red and yellow paint was striking.

CNW even used those bi-level cars on intercity trains, such as the Peninsula 400 and Flambeau 400, so there's even more options there.

Thanks! The bridge is mostly built around the Micro Engineering "City Viaduct" with some modifications. The far end curves, so I scratchbuilt a basic plate girder section with some miscellaneous bridge beams. I had to jack up the viaduct slightly with those concrete footings to fit double-stacks underneath. Then I had to do some additional modifications when I added the industry lead track in the foreground, which I hadn't originally planned for. Since it ran right where the bridge supports were going to be, I needed longer cross beams to straddle the tracks below.

Your going to come close to buying out the countries remaining stock on those TBOXs. 😄
I know Spring Creek has 1 car and 1 number left. I did finish the inventory of Walthers Mainline yellow TBOX box cars at YankeeDabbler, Hiawatha Hobby, Jason’s Depot and Lombard Hobby. There is a Canadian distributor I buy many things from but in this case he wants $6.00 more per car then the highest priced yellow TBOX I purchased in march and April. With his higher shipping costs between $4 and 5 per car I can‘t buy the cars and hope to sell at the higher price.

The Atlas yellow TBOX cars are beyond what my normal client will pay for. Last I checked was $15 higher per car then the Walthers car but with lots more fragile details.

Its been a good run
