Wow, what a great WC 2 bay hopper! Plus great other purchases.

If this is your 1st purchase from Matt at Circuscitydecal.com you will be delightfully happy. IMO Matt makes great decals and his dad has a super nice layout to operate on

🤣The hopper looks great Tom thank you! 😉

As for the decals no it is not the first time for me ordering from Matt. I have probably bought around 30 sheets from him in the past

Walthers RTR 'City...' Series 932-9520 PS 5 Dbl Bedroom Buffet Lounge Union Pacific UP 809A 'Cheyenne'

A beautiful car! I love how they added the brass grab irons.....they did this on the Proto Series too. I do have some of them as well.

I've already swapped out the knuckle couplers for KD's and all the plastic wheels for metal except for the caboose, I need to work out how to swap the coupler out first, not using a clip like the others.

I'm also rich, I'd heard about owners using coins for weights, but never experienced it till now, these were loose inside the box car, all 28c worth

I use the pennies to add weight to any enclosed cars. Much cheaper than A-Line weights.

Chris what number Kadee coupler do you normally use?

The USA penny weighs 2.5 grams each ( if after 1984) or 11 to 1 ounce roughly. 12 works for me because I have them glued in stacks of 6 for covered hoppers and box cars.

Car weight can become a massive discussion but I overweight my personal cars. All have steel wheels and they must roll easily on my test/program track. Nothing scientifically measured but I know “roll nicely” when I see it!

I try and keep to #5 couplers, but that depends on what car I'm fitting them to, originally I was going to convert my OO to Kadee's so I ended up with a wide selection
#5, 8,17,18,19,142,147,148,149 and 451's, so I think I've got them all.

The one bone of contention I have with Kadee is the lack of range on the NEM362 couplers, they don't have any medium, long or short, over or underset, only centerset, which is why I stopped converting my OO scale to Kadee, the alternative would be to buy smaller wheels, which I did try, but just looked so wrong, also I'd need around 400 axles of various sized wheels. :)

Weight wise I always add weight to my cars, irrespective of scale OO usually is 20-30 grams, HO is 30-40 for 3 bay hoppers and the like, the longer ones, 50'-60' are in the 50+ grams. Basically I'll add weight on the longer cars until it doesn't derail if it's in the middle of a 6 car rake, definitely not scientific, but it works.

Snagged these the other day at 24 dollars each.....normally I see these at 75 plus or even 125....

After a few months of anxious waiting, I was able to hit up two model train shows over the past couple weekends. Unfortunately neither one really blew me away. The first one, normally held once a year in a big convention center-type hall, seemed a bit smaller and more cramped than in years past. And there just weren't as many vendors or good deals as I was hoping for. The second show skewed heavily towards O-gauge and Lionel, which I don't do, but I did have my eyes open. A friend of mine wants to get back into the hobby and is interested in a quality O-gauge full size passenger train. If I see something worth getting for him, he's instructed me to jump on it and he'll pay me back. But I haven't seen anything that fits that bill recently either.

Anyway, long story shorter, I didn't come away empty handed. Plus, I had a pleasant surprise. Picked up a few freight cars (got a discount for buying all the blue tank cars together), a couple calendars for next year (not depicted), but the surprise is the sweatshirt. About three years ago at a different show, I was chatting with a clothing vendor, jokingly "complaining" that he didn't have a sweatshirt in "my" railroad, the SP. He said he would have one made for me, and asked what color I wanted. Black. He took down my address, said he'd mail it to me, and I paid him.

I never received the shirt. For the next couple years, I'd look for him at shows, but never saw him. Finally at the first show I attended this month, I saw a vendor selling the same type of hats and shirts, and I asked, "Hey, do you know someone who used to sell these products at shows in the area? There was a guy who used to have a table with this clothing."

"Oh yeah, that's __________. He doesn't sell these anymore, we took over the clothing line from him. But he's over there (pointing), he sells O-gauge now."

So I wandered over, ready to tell him, "Hey! Remember me? You took my money and never sent me anything!" When he saw me, he reached under the table and pulled out a bag.

"I've been carrying this around for two years!" He said. It was my shirt. He apologized because he had lost my address and then brought it to shows for the past two years, but we had never connected. So now I've finally got my shirt. 😁

I also picked up some new pins at the second show. I have to wear a tie at work, so I have quite a collection of pins that I use as tie tacs. I have two other Northwestern Pacific pins already, but this is the first one I've seen that is a filled-enamel pin for the NWP.

In over 50 years of model railroading swap meets and shows buying and selling, I have only encountered 1 unscrupulous fellow.

I'm not suggesting the guy was unscrupulous per se. But I won't rule out poor business practices or absentmindedness.
No, I wasn't either, in fact the opposite. He for certain had no intention of taking money under false pretense. But I learned the absent minded lesson selling stuff in boy scouts. ALWAYS write down everything for every transaction. I took an order and assumed it would be easy to remember as I was not getting a lot of orders. But months later when the order came in I forgot the house number where to deliver. I ended up going door to door in the block where I knew I had sold it. How embarrassing that was.
