Is that Tower 55 model new?
I bought a couple of them in 2010.
One of the parts in the drive train known as a butterfly gear will crack which will render the drive train inoperative. NWSL finally provided a replacement for that gear.

This arrived a couple of days ago, just geting around to showing it.

It was an auction for 9-walthers refinery piping kits and 2-oil loading platforms.

I wonder if the number of piping kits scared off most bidders. I put a bid of $39.99 on this lot and won it.

Not sure why I need 9-piping kits for my refinery, but I guess they will be good for adding to other industries later on.

no i got it 2nd hand from a auction. tower55 is no longer producing the closed down some time ago i think.
i did some test runs, and it works fine, only the sound quality i was not impressed. my other loco from athearn? sounds way better. But i still have to test my new Rapido and Scaletrains how they sound :)

Sound is very subjective. I love the Scaletrains diesel sounds and if you replace the speaker with one from Scalesystemsounds.com

the sound is even better with anybodies diesels. With that said I do prefer Athearn Genesis diesels. Never knowingly see a Tower55, enjoy

Have fun with those. I think mine took 2-3 hours but I only had 1

You can never have enough piping

You're right about their availability. A guy named Brian started the Tower 55 models up then I guess it failed. He works with Overland now and took the molds for these locos with him I think. The sound decoder was a special run by one of the major manufacturers, but I can't recall who that was. the little butterfly gear began to fail and he ran out of replacements, so the world came to its knees with dead models until NWSL came to the rescue.

Funny thing is, I was driving back from up north this afternoon and I saw a very similar Chevy… usually with 🇨🇦 winters vehicles dont last that long…
They use lots of salt here too. However rust does not form when it is below freezing. A thorough washing in the springtime goes a long ways towards longevity.

I currently drive a 35 year old Suburban, and plan on driving it until I die.

Super cool building kit came in the mail yesterday:

I thought this was going to be a cardboard put together, but the heft of it! Then opened the package and the walls are cast metal ---

I took a look at the instructions and they are pretty particular about how they want you to put it together, needless to say I will be doing it my own way:

Very satisfied with the quality of the materials here, this is an ebay find. Priced at $25 plus 6.05 shipping from Utah I feel like it was a good value.

I will be washing castings today on this and the welders truck, will be posting that on my layout thread

I love grain scenes, elevators…

Here is a work in process. Overhead LED lights are ordered and should be here when I return Monday
What a great scene!

Mine is probably going to be about that size with 16 silos. You have given me a couple more ideas than I had origanaly had. I never thought of the wet/dry bins. I will include a few of them as well.

The hunt shall continue!

Thanks for sharing.
