Ludgren Equipment Company machine shop

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

So i figured that since I hadn't posted since 2010 I figured it was time to post again here on this forum.

I have a small diorama I built that conforms to both Free-mo and Route87 standards. I wanted a nice diorama I could put different vehicles on and also have a spot of a freight car or engine. Since this is a small diorama I wanted to have it superdetailed so that it would complement my efforts with my other models. The story behind Ludgren is that I am modeling a small section of their facility which houses the machine shop. This gives me an excuse to be able to put different pieces of equipment in front or near the building for display.

The machine shop itself is scratchbuilt and is actually recycled from another project I started about the last time I posted on this forum, it was going to be part of a garage. I finished the framing and added the small area on the side. I covered the outside with the Campbell corrugated siding. I used Grandt Line windows and doors with roof vents front City Classics.

One thing I really enjoy doing is adding interior detailing on buildings that will be at or near the edge of a layout. Since this building is on a module and will be viewed from all sides I made sure to pack it full of details.

I still have a couple hundred pieces I need to add to the interior, then I can add the lights!

Wow your project looks great. You must have a very steady hand. Are there going to be railroad tracks anywhere?

Lasm: The tracks will be behind the wooden fence with the junk parts in front of it. I am building all my structures on 1/2" pink foam an them securing them to the modules. As for a steady hand, it helps that I am only 33 years old :D I will take a picture of it this weekend sitting in its proper place on the module.

OK I think I will call it done for now on the details, I still need to do something with the figures as they are just stand ins to give the space a sense of purpose.
