Low Cost/Hight Tech Dynamic Scenery

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Hi to all and especially tootnkumin. Your last post is absolutely correct and I realize now that I am wrong in encouraging members to leave the forum. I apologize for that. Could you advise me as to better respond to those that are interested?

I understand some scepticism here, but my intent really is to provide my technology for very little money. I can't just give things away, but I really don't intend to make a profit. I'd rather not be in the buy/sell business, but very few modelers have the capability of programming micro's or even just burning them, so I can't just post the code. There's more involved than just the micro though and I post the hardware design and schematics/wiring diagrams on my web page. I'm willing to sell the programmed micro for cost + a couple bucks for my time & trouble. To supply a complete parts kit is a different story and I can hire someone to take care of that end for a bit more, but still way less than anything else I've seen on the market. All my project are for the scratch builders, I don't offer anything pre-made or pre-assembled and most everything can be done for close to $5 worth of parts.

I've been here 10 days now, 9 members have responded. 4 were totally negative, and totally baseless. The others were somewhat positive, especially yours, and 2 indicated that they might want something someday. What I had hoped to do here was to entice a few members to try a couple of my projects and pass the word. (I have given a couple dozen away to area clubs, 1 responded, the rest refused to even email a 'Thank You"! From others I learned that their circuits worked very well.) This is why I encouraged those brave souls that were interested to contact me privately so that I could make them a generous offer! The only string attached would be to help pass the word to the rest of the group. (None responded.)

Am I in the wrong group? Does this forum provide any means of private communication? How were you able to post that video from logandsawman?

In the case of logandsawman's (often referred to, even by himself, by his unofficial I.D., LASM or lasm), at the bottom of his posts is his name, Dave, and a link to his YouTube videos. Down at the bottom of his page of videos (had to load more I think to get to it) was the one I copied the whole URL of and pasted as a link to the forum's reply field. Since acquiring Windows 10 it now only requires posting the reply to embed the video, as you see it, on your screen, for you to click to view.

Earlier WIN versions, or other OS's may need other methods e.g. Windows 7 requires you to only copy and paste the parts of the URL between the ='s if there is 2, or after if there is only 1 =, to embed the video. Copying and pasting the whole URL provides a compressed URL on the forum's view. The viewer can then access the video via that link.

Your choice of forum is the correct one for these types of discussions, and you can PM (private message) other members via your profile, or by clicking their username in one of their posts and there will be the PM'ing option available. As you have noticed it favors reasonably frequent contributors to the forums as a privacy provision.

We all get together for a natter about other events, things in our lives in the Coffee Shop http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/...-Bear-s-Coffee-Shop-LXIII&p=449101#post449101 the only taboos are political discussions and the benefits or comparisons of various other potentially inflammatory personally held beliefs. It's the informal place to get to know others and be known. Join us there if the mood so takes you.
