Last nighta round 11:40 PM a south bound train loaded with sulfer derailed. I went down and checked out the mess. Here are some of the pics of the wreck. The tracks that look in good shape are the local light rail that has been shut down due to the derailment.
The derailment has caused quite a backup on the Joint line. Four trains are tied up between Sedalia and the derailment. the lead unit on one of the manifests is UP1989 the Rio Grande heritage unit!!
Engough chit chat i'm sure you want to see the pics.
Great teamwork by the Cat operators and lots of spectators in that last pic.
That third pic looks almost like you modeled it. Not a bad plan if anyone has the space to do so.

does anyone know if you can find those crawler cranes things? (or even what they are called??!) I'm looking to put together an HO scale crash response train...
Bummer. Did you get pics of the 1989?

Those are side boom Cats. If there isn't one available, you can kitbash one starting with a Cat bulldozer. I remember GHQ doing something like it.
Now that I know that I can build one of them using a crawler--where does one put the counterweights on a side boom?

Nice pix BTW
Custom Finishing has a kit that I assembled, normally available from Walthers.

I did but after the sun was down so they are not very good. Im going to see if I can catch it on the way in to Denver.
Most of the tanks cars are in amazingly good shape, a testament to the higher standards they are being built to now. I am surprised that UP and Littleton PD would allow all those spectators along the fence line. Along with the usual danger of flying debris when you're cleaning up a wreck, I'm pretty sure none to the guys working wanted someone dropping a lit cigarette but on them from the crowd.
