Very nice Z!
Not the same caliber, but here's a Walthers gon loading rail in Longhurst:

This is an Eastern Car Works G26 gondola, to be painted for Conrail. This car is the center of a newsletter article series for Model Railroad Tips. The first part just released on the 5th at noon EST. Unfortunately, for non-subscribers to the email newsletter, you'll have to wait until the 4th of Sept for the newsletter to go live online, part 2 will email out on the 5th of Sept.

CSXT pipe gon.

Nice models, guys. Josh, I'll be looking forward to your tips.

This topic reminded me that I don't have one gondola on my roster. Lots of flats and hoppers, but no gondolas. I knew I was missing something. Time to check the sales flyers. :)

Here is one that I have done- a 65' Athearn gondola with scratchbuilt bulkheads to represent one of the Chicago and North Western's PRIDE program gons that were in captive crushed automobile service. Lettered with Oddball decals, and the interior is done with Sophisticated Finishes rust solution.

Nice models and I like the weathering.

Can we see a larger shot of that?

VERY impressive! Nice work on the interior finish, how come mine never turns out that good on its own? I have to add some extra paints to get the color shifts...

Thanks for the compliments guys-

Josh- I add alternate washes of solution and water to the rust finish to get the differences in rust color. It takes a little tweaking to get it to look "right"

Here is a larger version of the shot as requested by Zoegraf-

That is so impressive and inspiring. Photographs of the prototypes I model are rare especially weathered gondolas hence I tend to by shy with weathering. Though I do have some colour film footage that was converted to video of the place and era I model, which helps, but the footage is grainy and faded.
I hope to see your gondola again within a scene.

Hi guys,

Here is my first attempt at weathering a gon. It is an Accurail kit. I still need to add airhoses and cut levers. I also need to change the wheels to reboxx. It was a fun little project.

Thanks! Anton

Looks great. What period is that gondola?
I'm tempted to go out and buy an Accurail. I miss working on them. In the early nineties, I practiced my carving, detailing and weathering methods on them.
Hope to see more of your projects.

Hi zoegraf,

Thanks for the kind words. The era for the gondola is about late 50's - early 60's, give or take. I hope to post some more projects too. :D

Haven't been modelling for very long so this is pretty simple. It's just an ordinary gondola shortened down to about 20 scale feet for a small mining layout I'm planning... :)
