Ok so kato is coming out with ho scale phase IVB superliners :D in may/june 2012. The're making Diners, Lounges, Sleepers, and Coaches. The only car they are not making is the transition sleeper  I love kato but this is going to be a problem because the superliner train I model require the transition sleeper :( What are they thinking? I am debating whether or not to buy them. Some one wanna tell me why the're not making this car?:confused::confused:

Simple, a "Transition Sleeper" (Dorm) is a Superliner II car. Kato only makes Superliner I cars.

So I'd bet the Transition Sleeper is not the only Superliner they do not make. The list should also include Superliner II Sleeping cars, Dining cars, Coach cars, and Lounge cars.

Some information on the differences between Superliner I and II models can be found here:

I know the difference between superliner Is and IIs just by looking at their trucks, lol :p I have a walthers phase IV transition sleeper, just don't think it would look good with the new superliners  Thanks anyways.

p.s the Southwest Chief is the train I'm modeling, lol :D

Yep you're right that the Walthers cars probably won't look right with the Kato cars.

Although if you have the older, non plated Walthers Superliners then they might look fine with the Kato cars.

The Walthers plating looks a little too bright when in a trainset of non-plated cars.

Here you can see how a plated Walthers coach differs with a Walthers baggage and Intermountain (Hi-Level) Coach Dorm:

I wish walthers didn't discontinue their phase IVB superliners! :( They discontinue everything Amtrak related. they said because of their stupid run of walthers proto Amtrak hilevel cars, they don't have any plans for a re-release of IVB superliners. I will not buy the proto hilevel cars because they don't look like their worth buying, lol.

Walthers seems to discontinue everything that sells good and keeps the stuff that dont...

I couldn't agree more! I'm very angry with them! I mean seriously, the proto Amtrak hi level cars!? Amtrak never had them in phase I and II, only phase III -which they wont make-

You can fix that by airbrushing a flat coat on the newer plated cars. I've done this for a few guys who felt the plating was too bright. Works pretty good. I used Testors Acryl Flat.

I don't have....well 1 the talents to do that. I don't have all the supplies to do that, and I don't have he patience to do that, lol :p

They don't discontinue it...it just sells out. They have a tooling budget, and they prioritize projects. I had to wait years for the correct 4-4-2 Regal car for my Super Chief, but they did get around to it. Have patience :D. If they see the demand, they will do it. They'll also get around to rerunning stuff, though it may take a while.

Would I be the only one asking where are the IVB Horizon coaches? Since we seemed to be on about Amtrak products ;)

I'm still waiting for the day where they come out with Amfleet I and II coaches in IVB. I don't rely/count on walthers anymore, however, Kato ho scale is starting to turn their N scale IVB stuff in HO!!! :D IVB superliners will be available May 2013, and P42s will be available June 2013!

Also, where can I preorder the Kato Ho scale IVB superliners? I'm not ordering through Internettrains.com!

I don't know about anyone else, but I ordered mine through Pacific Western Rail Systems. I like their ordering system, they will hold all the items you order until ready to ship all at once, saving you shipping costs. Pretty decent discounts too. They have a lot of good things, and a lot of custom runs. The online ordering is confusing however

I just looked at them and at $90 each, no way. Thank you so much anyway, i'm going to keep looking for more places to order them

Possibly there is a different discount based on import duty or something if you are north of the border.

Since were discussing Amtrak. Anyone know what are the proper cars I need to get in order to build a modern Empire Builder train. I dont know what cars Amtrak uses for that train currently.

The Chicago to Seattle train? Easy, the consist usually contains 2 P42 locomotive which you can buy from either Athearn Or kato (Kato highly recommended) A baggage car you can order from Kato soon, A transition Sleeper (your going to have to hunt on ebay for no one makes this car anymore) 2 Superliner I Sleeping cars, Superliner I diner, Superliner I lounge, 2 Superliner I coaches and a Superliner I coach baggage all can be ordered from Kato. These cars are available in both n scale and Ho scale

This consist works perfectly for the Southwest Chief as well.
