Kato HO steam locomotive

Can I order a HO steam locomotive from Japan and use in America. The engine is for 100 volts not 110. Anyone doing this? Thanks.

The power supply may need 100 V, doubt the loco uses anything close to that. That high of voltage would make the tracks lethal. HO normally uses 0-12VDC for the motor in the locos. I suspect it will work fine in the states if you buy a power supply locally (or Amazon) that uses 110VAC.

Then should work with my older MRC power pack. 110 in but 15.6 volts output? Thanks for reply.

When you put a load on your older MRC I suspect the measured voltage will be close to 12VDC.

FYI, Kato specifies maximum operating voltage as 12VDC. Most model train powerpacks put out 12 or a little more volts, though there are some that put out 24 volt spikes. The MRC 1300 series are among those.
