Thanks. I will probably step away from the other log cars for now and start on a BTS "McCabe Water Car" wood kit. Working with wood kits is much more enjoyable for me.

I’m the same as you, wood kits are better to me just because I love working with wood. Being a professional woodworker for many years I guess you get use to what you know and stick with it.
Also to me much easier to weather and detail than plastic kits. Stains and washes seem to just work better for me when working with wood.
Great job on the log car and look forward to other builds you share with us.
Finished the 2nd log car last week. This build went a lot faster than the first. I used my own wire for the truss rods and followed my own sequence of assembly. The third and last log car is in the paint stage and should be complete soon.
Last of the log car builds. What a relief! The client wanted this one without logs. He can always drop the stack on the car if he wants.
Another one for the Sonoma Mountain RR. This was my first kit that had mostly white metal parts. I have two more of these to build.

I'm a big fan of weathered and (ab)used equipment..
Cars on my private industry ( logging and mining) have dual numbers.
Example; one car side is 101, other side is 102 or 101, other side is 201 and so on. Minimizes a string of number sequence (1,2,3,...) and/or shows newer cars in the fleet. Nice effect for a small operation
