I wanted to ask if anyone knows what decoder IM is using on their non sound engines? I have a couple on order and realized that they already have decoders in them and was curious to find out what brand they are?
The other info I am looking for is if anyone has used DecoderPro with one and how well do they perform for slow speed?
So far all of my decoders are ESU Loksound Select other than my two BLI's. I don't know if I will put sound in all of the IM's I want to get since many will be the same model and road name.
I think when you start putting sound in to many locos you will start to realize you always run some of them together. Having more than one or two sound systems in a lashup just isn't all that great. Consider how the prototypes do it. They power the truck motors off of one or two of the lashed power systems so ya don't hear their diezels.

Only units that run off of another unit on real railroads are slugs which do not have a diesel motor in them. Slugs require a mother unit with high power cables connecting the two together. Normal units be it Cab units or B units have a diesel engine in them and that is what powers each units truck motors but the lead unit controls them all together whether its 2 units or 20 but does not send power to the truck motors. Now if a train drops off cars and tonnage is low the can either isolate units or shut them down completely which means the motors don't do anything and that unit is dead weight. The 27 pin MU cable between units just sends control signals for the other units and the 3 MU hoses on each side are just for the Air Brake system.
