Noodle is good
I was just wondering, what is inside a loco nose ????. I never asked myself the question until today, so maybe there is a home theater there ??

Conrail once had some GP-15-1s parked in Latrobe for an Operation Lifesaver thing they were doing and you could actually go inside the cab of one of them. Inside the nose is the bathroom and I think the sand bunker is above it. I remember hearing the widecabs also have crashposts and refridgerators in there as well as the bathroom. It also has the steps leading up into the control area since on widecabs the nose is where the crew enters.

Here's some pix for ya. A brand new ES44DC built March 5th 2010. It's the rear unit for tonights Z-SbdWsp2-23 (4 unit consist I built this afternoon). The new impact doors are built super thick and heavy compared to the older units.

Ports for downloading the event recorder and onboard camera. This can also be done via satellite now with even being on the unit.

Close up of the door. The tan beam to the right with the oval hole at the top is the impact brace that provides extra protection to the crew inside the cab.

Power inverter for all the 100v stuff inside. Yes there are a couple 74v outlets in the cab. The are standard 100v receptacles!

I like that the latrine has two nice handles to grab onto for extra squeezing. Kudos to the design team.

I think you're out of Charmin, though.

Brand new unit and NO TP or First Aid Kit! What the hell? The First Aid kit is an FRA violation, the TP comes in "Crew Packs" now! Had to take a kit off another unit lol

how thick is the sheet metal that makes up the body
of these loco's? autobody sheet metal thick or plate steel??

i dont know what is a TP, but the first aid kit is just behind the engineer seat, on the wall

its plate except for all the side doors. TP= toilet paper.... our 1st aid kits are mounted on the back side of the control stand, as you step down into the nose. the hole was empty so my guess is "someone" took the nice new kit for their "locker" lol If the engineer has to "go" then he is supposed to stop the train and take care of business. and you never ever crap on the lead unit.... take ur a** to the 2nd unit! ;)

I hear the new genset's have bathrooms. The one in Shreveport yard did but the doors were locked up with tap covering most of it so we couldn't get inside to investigate.

Yes, the gensets have bathrooms, but if you're in a SW series switcher, then no. No bathrooms in the MP15s either.
