Is there any genre of music which you listen to when modeling a freight car passenger car, locomotive or any other model railroad related project?

No, I have not just listened to music in, in, in more years than I can count. Might even be decades. I usually try to get stuff done while the NASCAR race is on TV.

I listen to rock & roll from 1955 through 1985 or so. I run the gamut from the Coasters, Beach Boys, Yardbirds, Beatles, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd etc. I have over 25,000 mp3's on my Ipod and I use a docking station to broadcast in the trainroom. Can't use the earpods because I ruined my hearing years ago, besides the wiring would get in my way. Long live rock!

When I was building my layout, I was constantly listening to Slacker Radio, an online radio app. Now that the building is done and the more fun modeling part has been in full swing, I sometimes listen to iTunes, a podcast, npr, an earnings call, podcast, or just work in silence.

As for genre of music, I enjoy 90s/2000s alternative rock most but occasionally listen to some 70s/80s rock, acoustic folk, and country. Nothing Muzak-ish or head banging (aka no Judy Collins or Gwar...)

I am like Charles, everything from Tchaikovsky to Poison to Pink Floyd to Genesis to good old classic country, and everything in between. It really depends on the song rather than the singer or band.

BUT if I had to pick one song it would be "Never Surrender" - Corey Hart, mainly for encouragement, and the fact that I never surrender :)

This is going to sound crazy, but it is true. Real life is stranger then fiction.

I love Heavy Metal music, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath to Slip Knot, Mudvayne and some other current bands that I don't even know the names of. Give me a hard driving bass, heavy riffs and clever lyrics and I am a happy man. It has to have good rhythm or it ends up just being noise.

The other side of the coin (kind of like 2 face, a villain from Batman) I love Christmas Music. From November 1st through January I listen to mostly Christmas music.

In Baseball season I enjoy listening to a ball game on the radio while playing with my trains. NBA and NHL games are good too. I will also put the games on TV and listen to them that way when they are being rebroadcast early in the mornings.

I have to sit and watch the NFL to be able to follow it, although I have been known to listen to the NFL on the radio while decorating for Christmas.

Baseball is my favorite thing to listen to when playing with my trains.

Several ways to go about it, the easiest is to copy the mp3 off the cd onto whatever computer your ipod is linked to, then sync your ipod and make sure it adds those files. you probably have to 'add to library' or something, it's been a while since I've done that.

But that reminds me, I should put some Rickie Lee Jones on my ipod for dog walking.

Cool topic. I listen to a lot of rock n roll but a little in other genres too. Today I was working on the layout for the first time in probably a month. Jammed to some Rolling Stones, Eddie Money, and others today. Rock n roll from the 60s to the 90s is what I enjoy most. I can go from ACDC to the Heart to the Beatles to Led Zeppelin to you name it lol. My mom listened to those types of bands when I was kid so it's something I've always enjoyed. Well maybe not ACDC, that was a little too hard core for my mom!

I like Woody Guthrie and Arlo too, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, John Denver, Simon and Garfunkle, Ozzy Osbourne, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, Tom T. Hall, The Statler Brothers, Mell Tillis, Vavaldi, Bach, Beethoven, The Pogues, Steve Goodman, John Prine, Celtic, rock, folk, country, classical, etc, etc...........anything but rap!
