I'd like layout with 2 tracks,an overpass or 2 and not just an oval.

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I, too, would suggest N scale for all that in a 4x8. You really need a good 5X9 for the HO version you are talking about.

HO is my preference. Since I now have trouble seeing details of HO scale, N scale is out of the question.

I also agree that 4x8 is smaller then optimum for HO, larger is better. But you can get a good bit of stuff on a 4x8 in HO, but you need smaller equipment.

A couple pics of my 4x8:

It's not much really, but it's basically a layout I built in 1970 or 71, from my original 1964-65 layout. I repaired it in 1993 or so after getting it out of storage at my parents, for my then 3 year old son and I to run trains on, which is why it's so low to the ground. But it does show you can get more than just a single oval in a 4x8.

The track plan is modified from a track plan in the old Atlas Tack Plan booklet.
