I'm BRAND new to model railroading. I'm currently putting together my first layout. It's going to be 2 loops about 30' a piece connected by a double crossover. I'd like to be able to run at least 2 engines on it. From the little bit I've read I think I need to go dcc? Can you guys suggest a controller that's not too complicated but one that can grow with my skills. Keep in mind I'm not familiar with a lot of things so if you dont mind explain it to me like I'm a 10 year old. Thanks for any help.

For simplicity Mrc prodigy or nce. For something you can upgrade or advance with digitrax or nce.

Nce will do about everything you need and is more user friendly than digitrax.

Thanks guys. With the Digitrax, is that all I need to get my locomotives running? If I read the description right it comes with a power supply.

pretty much, you will want to make sure your getting the base station at least, there are different "levels" that you can get that offer a bit more (power and walk around throttle) if you want that...but the basic starter kit for Digitrax Zypher will do just fine for what your wanting to do from the sound of it...I have messed with it a bit already and like it...and just ordered one my self...

When I purchased my Super Empire Builder seven years ago, I didn't realize that no power supply was included in the package and its price. I was somewhat annoyed by that omission. It delayed my use of the appliance after I received it. However, if Digitrax, or your provider, states that a power supply is now included, they charge about $40-50 for one, plus shipping, if you have to order it. So, that's a welcome change in my opinion.

I don't know about the Zephyr but the Super Chief does NOT come with a power supply

DCC Choice

I own both MRC Prodigy Squared and Digitrax. I have found that the MRC Prodigy Squared is more than a startup but an all included DCC system. Its ready to go with power source at 3.5 AMPS and can be upgraded to wireless. Without a doubt as far as I am concerned the MRC Prodigy squared is much easier to install and understand than digitrax. I think you can call it user freindly. I only have a Digitrax system because a group I am envolved with chose that system. My current layout has MRC and it operates flawlessly. Prodigy also has a great online yahoo group as an additional support for factory support.
Thanks
Wayne

I have a Digitrax Zephyr Xtra and it includes everthing needed to operate DCC locos. Of course you need locos equipped with decoders, otherwise you'll have a nice paperweight.
