After almost 2 years with my 4x8 layout with double track ovals and some switching I want to do something else. I really don't care much about a lot of switching and enjoy watching a train run more. While it is nice to be able to run 2 trains, watching them go round and round on parallel ovals is not great. Also the whole track plan was flat. So this week I dismantled the whole thing and am starting over. It will still be 4x8, but will be a twice around over and under. There will be enough terrain that the train will go through a tunnel and on the second go round climbs a curving grade. A small yard and a siding will be included. The siding could be used for expanding the layout when I get more of the garage cleaned out.

Dave: Skip a step. Maybe clean out the garage now - said with tongue in cheek. Have a sale and make some MRR money to boot. That extra space will work wonders for multiple trains and elevations. Yup, that should keep you busy for awhile. Remember, we like pix.

I thought I would update the progress on my model railroad. Trackwork and basic terrain mostly done, and first layer of ground cover coming along.
Very nice balance of mainline run and switching, shows what can be done in that space.
I like what you’ve done with a small space. One of the better designs I’ve seen.
