My oldest in house is 1946 Lionel. My oldest that I have continuos owned is from when I was a kid. The oldest on the layout as part of the layout fleet is a blue box from the late 80’s.
I have an old Bachmann N scale 0-6-0 that I got back in the late 1980s that amazingly still putt-putts around on the layout.
Someone asked a while back if my challenger that my dad has that is mine now what it was it’s a D&RGW brass and he paid $110.00 back in the 60’s. Runs little loud cause of the motor back then but pulls every car I have.
Another brass engine I have from him is a little 10 wheelers and it runs great. Sometimes I wish I would have just a circle of track DC just to run these old locos someday I just might do that.

An oval of Kato Unitrack is an option for running these engines once in a while. Nothing elaborate, easy to out together and take apart, and reliable to run on.

I wonder if that Challenger was kitbashed a little to represent a specific Rio Grande machine. The Elesco water heater looks sort of "not completely round". I was immediately thinking about Western Maryland M-2.

I have the original box and it says D&RGW and I know my dad never did anything with it and he bought it new. Let me see if the paperwork is still in the box. Heck if I know my dad it probably still has the parts sheet in the box if anything needed replaced.
Let me look and I'll post some more pictures. Thank you for comments and heck it may be kitbashed but I'm 99% sure it's all original from manufacturer.
Pictures of box. Yeah don’t prove anything but still have original box and in good shape to
Class 52 D1000 Western Enterprise from the 1970s. Still a delight to run

I'm not a "Western Man" but definitely a cool looking machine. From what i've read about Max Gray locomotives, they are built to last.
