Holy Grail Engine/Set Thread - What is Yours?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Because I don't strictly 'model' (I just buy what engines appeal to me, no matter who ran them) any one road or area, just an era, that being the steam-to-diesel or 'transition' era (1935-1964), I have had an intense expectation and desire to acquire each locomotive, meaning each was at one time a 'holy grail'. This has kept the hobby topped up for enthusiasm all this time. The first key locomotive, a steamer, and it took almost six years to get it before BLI brought it to market, was the UP 9000 4-12-2. It really is a masterpiece in non-brass HO steam locomotives. It is what BLI calls a hybrid model with a brass shell and plastic components. That was 2015 if I recall. Now, the holy grail is the Rapido CPR H1-b 4-6-4 that should be on the boat inside of four months if all goes well. #2816 just did a tour from Calgary down to Mexico in June and early July and thrilled literally thousands along the way. Can't wait to have my own copy.

Looking for this loco - it ran my location for several decades, wondering if there is a model of it out there?

It is an S-10:

Fourty locomotives were ordered in 1905 from the American Locomotive Company's Rogers works in Patterson, New Jersey. The order included twelve 2-6-0 "Mogul" types, eight 4-4-0 "American" types, and twenty 4-6-0 "Ten Wheeler" types.

This would be one of the 10 wheelers. Love to have a close replica, was a light locomotive that could pass the wooden truss bridge modeled on my layout

This might be close: https://tonystrains.com/product/rap...ler-standard-dc-unlettered-with-low-headlight On second glance, the firebox on this loco was probably heavier due to the rear driver being closer to the cab

There are a number of 10 wheelers on this site, this was just the first one I saw. I see he has undecorated as well, and they don’t seem to be back-ordered.

Importantly for anyone in the US, these are in Canadian dollars which at present works very much in your favour.

Thanks for the helpful links to the rapido 10 wheeler. Certainly a model of the same era, my prototype has all those steam/ water pipes snaking on each side, I believe. The headlight is a good match. As well as the domes.

The money is more than I care to outlay, will keep my eyes open on ebay in the meantime...

THANKS again, Dave LASM
