Hello fellow modelers. Very new model railroader here. I recent picked up a Bachmann C.B.&G 5601 HO steam engine at Goodwill. 9V battery test showed the engine would run. I put it on my DC track and nothing. Tested the track with another engine and it ran just fine. Tested new engine with battery and confirmed everything ran fine. Beating my head trying to understand why it won’t run on the track. I cleaned the wheels and it’s all new track. Any thoughts on other troubleshooting items would be greatly appreciated. My power supply is a very simple Bachmann 44211. Is this not enough power for the engine? Thank you

Could be that when you put it down on the track - something is opening and not letting dem electrons through. Try with the battery again and push the truck closer to the frame and see what happens. Volt meter would be handy here also as you could check the output voltage from the PS and see what happens with that.

Please explain your 9V battery test.

If a 9V battery can turn the wheels, I am certain that power supply has enough power for it.

Bachmann made so many variations of the 4-8-4 through the years it is hard to know which one you have. My guess is that it is from the 1990s, and has a split frame design. As the diagram below. That means it gets power directly from the wheels on each side and doesn't need the tender.
