I've recently purchased the above loco, unfortunately, it doesn't want to work. The seller informs me that it did when it was sent. This is a trusted seller, I've bought several items over the last few years, and all have been in near-perfect working order. I'm thinking it's an internal problem as there is no damage to the bodywork. I've tried DC and with a DCC decoder and nothing. I'm on the verge of returning it, BUT, I really like this steamer and I hate giving up on something so easily and would like to fix it if I can, so..................

How the flipping heck do I get into this loco, on the 'net, as informative as it is, I can't find the right YT that shows my model, and how to remove the bodyshell, all I can find are later ones, which seem to be different. (PCB board in tender) Mine is in the cab.

This is what I do know.
Remove the smokebox door and unplug the two pins for the light.
There is a screw under the front pony assembly that needs to be removed, and the boiler needs to be lifted and slid forward.

What I don't know is
How to remove the cab, as it appears to be in one piece with the boiler.
Where are the tabs located to release the boiler? I'm squeezing the sides, but to no avail, I'm guessing I can't release the boiler until the cab is removed.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm guessing this is the Athearn Genesis Mikado you just purchased. If you can wait one more day, I have two, 8 1/2 x 11 sheets with instructions (from Athearn) on how to remove the cab and shell. I will scan them and send you a pm. I have hung onto this info from Athearn for years.......it is priceless now.
