My name is Dana, and like many people nowadays, I am getting back into a hobby that I left many years ago.
When I was in my early teens I was into N scale but was never happy with the lack of early steam engines and cars available. I'm not really a fan of modern diesels and just couldn't set up the late 19th - early 20th century layout that I really wanted. I ended up getting out of the hobby because of college, life, etc.
30 years later I go on a whim to the "Greatest Hobby" show when it came through Portland and discovered what ON30 had to offer. I was amazed at the detail and accuracy of the engines and even more pleased that a great many of the offerings were from the turn of the century. I had always had an interest in creating a logging layout based on the local history and I finally had my chance. Despite my wife's eyes rolling, I decided to restart this pastime in my life.
I have had a deep interest in history my entire life and have spent most of it working for museums in one way or another. I own an exhibit design and fabrication company, specializing in artifact replication, models and dioramas and have worked as a professional model builder for more then 30 years. I am already set up to create something for myself having spent the better part of my life creating similar things for others. I am looking forward to putting time into something without having to hand it over to someone else!
I have started the layout and will be posting some photos in the next few days. I am still working out the details of the design and treating it like any other exhibit design, taking into account lighting, etc. It has been a lot of fun to rediscover this hobby and I am hoping to find others in my area interested in On30 scale.
I look forward to learning more and hope that I can contribute something to the forum!
