Hi everyone,

Pete here from Jindera, NSW Australia.
I am a recent convert to HO models of USA prototypes and I am currently building a freelance UP layout in my garage. I have not based anything on any particular location and my modelling skills are pretty basic.

I converted to US models after many years of modelling British steam in oo scale. I got totally frustrated with trying to find a quality manufacturer of these products and never found any that could produce a reliable, long lasting locomotive capable of realistic slow speed running for switching.

Got rid of the lot around 4 years ago and switched to products by Atlas and Athearn - US diesels with DCC & sound. What a difference!!!!! I should have made the change years ago.

I look forward to getting to know you all and hope to pick up on some of your vast collective knowledge.

Cheers

G'day Pete , Let me be the first and a fellow Aussie to greet you onto what has to be "THE BEST" forum I've ever come across...no doubt about that at all as you'll soon discover...I'm doing a modern US BNSF/ATSF layout in DCC myself and the help , friendly contact , genuine online friendships with modellers across all scales and respectful honest comments and advice is amazing..It makes this fantastic hobby even better.. US modelling especially in HO is so affordable , where as our stuff is still pretty limited which is a shame.. Glad to see that Intermountain etc are doing some BHP Billiton locomotives now though and some ore car and a few items of other freight are getting about a bit... There's quite a few Aussies and a couple of Ex pat Aussies on the forum too..but theres modellers from all over the world, not just the USA and why this all inclusive forum covers all the bases...Cheers to you..from down in Tasmania... Rod...

Welcome aboard. You're not the only one from down under modeling US prototypes. I looks like the change has upped your interest in the hobby.

Hope to hear from you often.

We look forward to it Pete.

Thanks for sharing your hobby. Next best thing to playing with my trains is to hear about another modelers trains.

G'day Pete, 'nother Aussie, neutralised this time, (or should that be naturalised or even neutered, coming from NZ (I cheer for Aus except when they're playing NZ)). British steam eh! A pom then? US prototype here as well, 'tis more interesting for sure, and easier to get. I'm moving away from UP to MRL & BNSF, sort of strange really, 'cause I've always liked the colors (have to use the "right" spelling here, got'ta remember where I am, even though spell-check say's it's wrong). Lots of good info here, questions get answered, everyone's keen to help.

Are you going to go with DC or DCC for your new layout?

Hi Pete & welcome aboard,
Glad your making a start at American prototype models and like the change.

There's plenty of great folks on here and Toot is somewhat local to your location I assume . Anyway there's lots of knowledge available on here so don't be afraid to ask or even inquire about something your not sure how to exactly describe. We've all been there at one point or another and this great hobby has so many facits to it, it can become a bit perplexing.

Welcome to the Forums, Pete. Rodney pretty much hit the nail on the head. This is a great place for anything railroading, model or prototype. I haven't been on here much for the last three months because of work and really missed it. Don't be a stranger!
