We have the following magazines available:
Live Steam: from the 80's, 90's, 2000s etc.
Model Railroader: from the 1940's forward to present.
Narrow Gauge Gazette: from the 80's, 90's, 2000's and present.
My grandfather had quite a collection and we need to decide what to do with these. We need to determine the worth and see if anyone wants them.
Thanks and look forward to the info!

personally i do not see value in old magazines, hard to find info and technology advances from that time made lots of topics not relevant in today's modeling. some will of course disagree, there is at least some monetary value in these, but IMO the best course of action is to donate it to your local library.

I'm interested, but give me a few days to determine what I'd like. Shipping magazines is hard, it's easier on me if I buy them locally.

Josh, If you end up buying them all, have'm shipped by truck because in the long run it's cheaper than the PO or UPS or Fed-Ex.

While the latest technology won't be in them, I find old magazines a great source of information on model railroading subjects such as kitbashing, scratchbuilding, car plans, engines, structures, layout ideas, etc. Many forget that the majority of the articles "back in day" also dealth with building cars, structures, trackwork. Things that are just as relevant today as they were then. And the now defunct all time magazine index on the Trains website, made finding the article you needed pretty easy.

If you do decide to eliminate them, their monetary value is very low. Donation to a library, various MD's offices, or even a local MRR club, may be better than trying to sell them at local train shows or an auction site.

I agree there... I buy mine from leads I develop through the curator of the library at the model railroad museum here.

About the only thing in old modelRR magazines that is worthwhile are the car, locomotive, and building plans. Model Railroading has changed so much, that everything else is simply outdated!

Although the Live Steam stuff is more enduring, a lot of that is still done the same.
