I figured after two years it was time to service the two bogies under this Bemo Ge 4/4 III locomotive. It was running pretty rough the last session so after dinner I dug in to it.

Opened up the bottom plate and removed the wheels. Sprayed them off with contact cleaner. A few tiny threads were found. Not sure what they were. Then a tread and backside polish via the Dremel and some red rouge. Finished the polish with a clean wheel.

Hosed out the bogies and gears with more contact cleaner to remove the old grease and oil, then cleaned the wheel pickups with a spot of Mother's Mag Wheel Polish. Reset the bend in the pickups for positive wheel contact and then re-greased the bogie gears. Replaced the wheels in front of the pickups, and then a tiny amount of fresh synthetic gun oil on each axle.

After reassembling the bogies, I replaced two grab bars and then polished the locomotive shell lightly to remove fingerprints and oil spots. I adjusted both pantographs and gave them a few oil molecules.

Runs like I just took it out of the box. Who's next!

It really doees run a lot smoother now. Just like new. I could put at least four more coaches behind it and it would pull all of them right up those grades.

I think I'm going to do the Abe 4/4 II next. That one is still running OK but it could use a complete service too.
