Continuing with the tree build, I opened the last package of dead limb material, and, well, not really what I need.....
Look at the size of this stuff. Pretty much all the small residue in the bowl is from the first two bags. This big stuff is from the 9" tree kit that comes with 15 trunks. Way too big for limbs, I'll use it as deadfall...........
But, a few weeks ago I filled a cardboard box with these armatures from a plant called Rabbit brush, growing here in the high desert of Oregon.
Lots of small twigs on this plant for limbs and the grey color makes a good contrast.

Meanwhile, over at the Bulk Transfer Station, all of the material piles have got their basic shape.
Starting on the right-hand side, going clockwise, black cinder, Perez, red cinder (came from the same pit as the black cinder,) pumice, woodland scenics coal load, Umpqua, Lower Lake. I hate the wet look of this kind of material when its glued down, so after I get each pile trimmed up and ready, I was going to coat each pile in glue, and then cover with the appropriate material......

Creek scene update.... Grass tufts are in, ground cover and painting......I got out the fir tree kits because I wanted to use some in this scene. To continue with tree assembly, I ordered some more material from Coastman's and Roger was kind enough to send some 6" trunks as a bonus. I like the look of the 6" trees here so I'm going to install a few more. The others are 11" and 9" trees.
Right now, I'm waiting on some WS fine leaf foliage to help fill in with the plant foliage......

Thanks Mike...this is my experiment corner. I have never done any of this landscaping before......so this is one big experiment!

While commenting to Mike made me think of the two biggest uh oh's on the grand landscaping experiment!...so far.
I stippled a dark green on the base of the wall as part of the tree background. When the paint dried, where it was thin, against the blue sky, it was a bright green. Looking toy-like was the first thing that came to mind..... I picked up an Americana very dark green paint and went over the bright areas. That toned them down considerably. Lesson here, be sure and use dark background colors.
The other thing was the ground up leaf litter......that looks like sawdust.
I put it down before any shrubbery or trees. I think it would look better if I put it down last, were I can place under the trees and areas I want.
This is leaves run thru a blender, kind of bright, I'll probably try and tone a batch down with some camo paint........

Note the difference between the structure of these three trees and the tree in the first pic of this post. These are the first three I made, I like a thicker tree, hence the first pic.
