Just found it. Very interesting.

Imagine there were dozens of these so called "Interurban" railroads across the United States a hundred years ago. They were basically lighter weight trains, falling somewhere between city trolleys and full scale rail equipment in weight. Some of the most well known and favorites of rail fans are Illinois Terminal around Chicago region and Sacramento Northern in California. They started to wither around WW II when more and more freight was diverted to trucks. Here is a typical looking Interurban electric coach:

This one used to run between Chicago and Milwaukee and it now resides at Iowa Traction Railway for special occasions.
