ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Here is a Scale Trains UP 8500 horse power GTEL with UP GP30 helper on the front of a 50 car refer train waiting for departure from the Chyeanna yard on the Wyoming Division Hystorical Society MRR.

Here's a BN GP39-2, often referred to as the 'wagon killers' when they arrived in the spring of 1981. The weak economy and the new locomotives spelled the end of the F units on the BN, affectionately known as covered wagons.

The model is Athearn Genesis with added (and removed) details and decals to match its 1995 appearance. For some reason Athearn left off the cab drip strip and sunshade mount even though every GP39-2 photo I could find shows one. Even the ones with the all weather window. I couldn't find a photo of 2703 with an all weather window so removed it.

Paul,
Great job on the weathering. That is a very good looking loco. I just added it to my list of locos to be acquired. Glenn

Thanks, Glenn. It is very similar to a GP38-2. Size wise it is the same. The difference is the prototype has a turbo charged 12 cylinder diesel for 2300hp vs a 16 cylinder non-turbo on the GP38 which makes 2000hp. That little more efficiency helped nail the coffin of the F units.

Other changes I made, I removed the beacon and added the front MU hose and anticlimber bracing. The bracing doesn't really show but it is the flat part of the brace is where the MU plug is. I added the step stripes and "be careful" labels in the step wells and a few warning labels on the long hood. I couldn't find any photos showing what they actually said so just put something about the right size. I just noticed I should add a arm rest and bracket for the engineer and the little rear view mirrors next to the window.

We just dropped our daughter off for her junior year of college. Cajon Pass was sort of on the way home. I tried taking the old wagon road from the summit to Hill 582. I ended up taking some wrong turns and the Outback's off road capabilities impress me. Some of the ruts are quite deep and I know it was on 3 wheels a couple times.

This train came and stopped blocking the view of the trains passing on the other track so basically got one train. It was also a significant birthday for my wife who graciously let me wait for a train and test her car's abilities on her special day.

UP 2702 from Scaletrains is being prepped for weathering. It’s a GE ET44AH (tier4) GEVO. ST does a great job IMO on their diesel models

Happy Friday, front end friday. The sun is trying really hard to burn through the morning fog as OE 53, an RS1, is switching Cascade Foundry in Junction City on Charlie Comstock's BCSJ railroad. The Junction Turn extra has dropped its caboose on the team track and is backing down the depot siding to the foundry. Hopefully, it will go quickly as passenger train 21 is scheduled to be along shortly and will want use the track #53 and train are currently occupying.
