How do you best replicate something similar to D&H's RS-3m's (U's?)?

Delaware & Hudson 505.jpg
Delaware & Hudson RS3u 505, Bellwood, Illinois, February 25, 1976,
photo by J. H. Nixon, Chuck Zeiler collection. The exhaust stack is
sealed with tape, I would suppose this locomotive is pictured on its
way back to the D&H after rebuilding at Morrison-Knudsen in Boise, Idaho.
In late 1975, the D&H shipped 10 RS3's to M-K for rebuilding to M-K's
TE 56-4A specifications, becoming RS3u's. Only eight RS3u's returned
to the D&H (numbered 501-508), likely the other two units were used for
parts. The orientation of the unit was reversed, and the short hood was
chopped and became the front end. This particular unit was originally
D&H RS3 4122 (c/n 80524), built August 1953. The major modification
was the replacement of the Alco Model 12-cylinder 244D prime mover
rated at 1600 hp with the 12-cylinder Model 251C rated at 2000 hp.
The box on top of the hood behind the cab became the dynamic brake
blower and resistors, re-located from the short hood. The long hood
was raised six and a half inches to make room for the larger prime mover.
Cooling, electrical, and control systems were all upgraded.
This locomotive was scrapped in 1988.

What's the size of the box holding the dynamic brakes?
How far back from the cab was it?
Can you swap the grilles for a fan on top instead, from GP-7/9?
I'm not gonna bother to raise the hood those six and half inches or 152.4 mm's,
as it would be only 1.75 mm in H0...

Well, y'know, you're planning a model RR'd that didn't exist, but had links to real ones. The types and modifications to engines and rolling stock is boundless. Even the real ones did it and still do it. Look at modern day NS for example, how they've modernised older locos, given them distinctively NS styled cabs. Take a leaf out of UP's book where they experimented with just about anything from putting EMD motors into PA's and now alternate fueled engines.

I'm currently building a fantasy tourist train using refurbished coaches to run behind my MRL locos (doesn't matter that some have fallen flag road names on them, they're all privately owned by enthusiasts). I do have a real world precedent (and that's enough to assuage any non prototypical guilt I might feel) 'cause there was one between '95 and '05 (MRRT) which of course became a fallen flag also. In my world it didn't, went on from strength to strength, even extending it's service with sleepers and dining service to a major interstate city, with power provided for that link by BNSF. Gives me the chance to "break out" from my self imposed prototype confines.

It's good fun, innit?
Looking forward to some pics of your artwork...
I'll have the RS-3m's and RSD-5m's built by my shop forces, but I'll have the Milwaukee Road build the RSC-25 (2.5) lookalikes (RSD-5's instead for RSC-2's) for me, due to work overload in my own shops...
Still trying to work out the trackage, keeping in and around the Great Lakes, but the same time, somehow, reach one or two of my other favourite railroads in the east. Might, just might, as far east as to Buffalo, NY, where I'll hook up with Lehigh Valley, already working closely with Milwaukee Road (obviously), got Gulf, Mobile & Ohio close as well. Also cutting down the subsidiaries that I had from five to two/three, keeping them to the Midwest, maybe using one to get to Buffalo and keeping my M&W to Michigan and westwards...and also keeping them at 1500 miles and less.
Not decided how far south/southwest that I want to go either, St. Louis or Kansas City...would both be greedy? lol

Hmmmm.....looks like it'd suck in everything and anything within a 50 foot radius! lol
Looks interesting, might just get a set and compare, much obliged!

All top mount fans blow up and out, draw in air through the side grilles, supposed to avoid sucking in hot exhaust fumes. Don't know if it did anything for this MRL 'ACe

I think you applied to much weathering. That doesn't look reasonable. Lol

I would think that was a burned out unit except the lights are on.

Once I am able to build a layout I am planning on continuing building the Laramie, Hahns Park and Pacific that ran from Laramie, WY to Coalmont,CO. It is a abandon line which I will freelance that is continued and grew. I intended on just running it to Steamboat Springs, CO. but recently found that they originally wanted to continue to Grand Junction, CO. The plan is to do research like an geographical engineer with the continuation to Steamboat. It should be fun.

I quite like this with the roundhouse and the dieselhouse wall to wall....
Question is how to add, remove, straighten it out, etc., etc...

Aren't you glad they invented drones with cameras

...lol..

Well, already got my next project in planning stages, think that I'll order some parts for it this week....D/B fans, grilles....if I can find suitable ones, in size and shapes, figure out the size of the D/B housing, still to decide if to use the EMD (Atlas SD24) or the Century cab for it....
