I have a Fox Valley GP60 in Santa Fe paint.
Tryin to do some programming on it using JMRI.
This decoder has reams of functions with no explanation of what they actually do.
Do they assume we just naturally know this stuff from birth?
They provide a brief manual that shows ya how to take the shell off and were to lubricate it once every 10 years but nothing about the reams of functions.
 
I tried contacting the Fox Valley people about that model and decoder. I never got any response at all from them. I called, emailed, and even tried their Fecesbook page, with zero response. I think it's a Loksound Select decoder, and if you have the Lokprogrammer, you can modify settings and see what you are doing.
 
The select decoder seems to be no adjustment decoder.
I have it in a consist right now but I want it to be quiet but the sound keeps turning back on by itself.

I had one FV engine and it only lasted a few hours of running before it died - or I should say, before the decoder died. I put them in the same category as bachmann sorry. I think contacting them and getting no response should also tell you something.

If it were me - I'd dump it some where it couldn't do any harm and replace it with something reliable.

At least Bachmann will respond and fix/replace the problem.

Yeah okay - as it happens I have numerous Steam engines and none of them are bachmann, life life, model power etc etc etc. They are Kato and BLI.

A bit of advice - don't jump to conclusions about what people run and don't run unless you know for sure - you end up looking silly if you do.

Follow your own advice, most of my collection is BLI. I don't have any Life Like or Model Power either and I model HO. Kato doesn't make HO Steam. Bachmann Steam is fine and BLI has put out plenty of stinkers in N Scale.

I guess now I know why this FV loco was so cheap. I think I picked it up at a train show.
I have plenty of silent decoders in the bin. I think I'll just swap this one out for one of those and it will forever be assigned to a silent part of a consist.
 
I don't know how I thought is was a Select. I wrote Wow on the bottom of the fuel tank.
When I tried to read the decoder on the JMRI, it wouldn't read the decoder at all. Same with the LokProggramer.
 


I've pretty well covered all those points in troubleshooting.
I tried it with my PR4 then went directly to my DCS240+ and still doesn't read it. I tested each connection with another loco and it was all good.
I do have the PTB100 in line with the test track.
