Here are the initial stages of our "learning layout build". Already got the kids involved with cutting wood, sanding and setting screws in the pre-drilled holes. Also here's a couple of attempts to brush off the layers of rust on my modeling skills with a couple of Metcalfe card stock buildings. I must say I was impressed with the potential these card models have. Not saying I achieved that potential but I gave it a go for $10 a piece before having a go at a $40 kit. Please no comments on the EZ track. Its just there for some visualization. I have two bags full of Unitrack I recently picked up and more on the way that will go in to the project. Any and all suggestion are welcome. Wish us luck!

Good luck mate, as long as there is plenty of track and trains to run that will keep the kids happy (all of you). There's one of my clubs older members makes cardstock buildings (prints them off his computer) and has a little stand at our show to demonstrate/sell. Gives small sheds etc away to get kids interested.

You're on a roll-keep up the good work! Cheap mock ups, are better than expensive mock ups. Baby steps. The buildings look nice. FWIW, I use some EZ track on my Philly & Scranton layout. Saves time, in my book. Don't know about the switches, but never had a problem with the track.
