Your DC power supply seems to be reversing polarity. Are you sure the engine is not DCC equipped already?

The engine is dcc equipped. How does that happen in dcc on dc track.

What usually happens is the decoder is seeing a fluctuation in voltage, and thinks you want it to reverse direction. If the track is not spotless, or if there are some questionable turnouts, those momentary power gaps and shorts will cause the engine to change direction. Also, not all decoders play well with straight DC. Pulse power will also cause issues.
