Atlas Model Railroad Co., Inc. is looking for a full-time, in-house Product Development/R&D team member to work from our Hillside, New Jersey office.
The position will support the development, review, and production of Atlas locomotives, rolling stock, track, accessories, and parts in N, HO, and O scale.
Primary responsibilities include:
-Assisting the Product Development team with researching, planning, and coordinating production runs for locomotives, rolling stock, track, accessories, and parts.
-Researching, specifying, and reviewing new model railroad products for possible production across N, HO, O and Z scale.
-Reviewing prototype information, drawings, test shots, pre-production samples, production samples, and incoming shipment samples for quality control, prototype accuracy, and scale-specific accuracy.
-Helping evaluate product function, appearance, compatibility, packaging, and overall quality across the Atlas product categories.
-Working with Atlas graphic artists to help develop artwork for monthly product releases, including locomotives, rolling stock, track, accessories, and parts.
-Supporting product managers with documentation, specifications, project tracking, and communication with vendors.
-Helping coordinate projects from initial research and product specification through tooling, sampling, production, and delivery.
-Helping ensure that products meet Atlas standards for prototype accuracy, appearance, function, packaging, and overall quality in N, HO, O and Z scale.
Qualifications:
-Knowledge of prototype and model railroads required.
-Familiarity with locomotives, rolling stock, track, accessories, and parts preferred.
-Working knowledge of N, HO, O and Z scale model railroading required or strongly preferred.
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other basic business software, including Word, Outlook, and Excel, required.
-Familiarity with AI tools and virtual meeting platforms preferred.
-Strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
-Good written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to work carefully with technical details, product samples, drawings, and production information.
-Ability to compare prototype information and product specifications across different scales and product categories.
-Knowledge of DCC, sound systems, CAD software, graphic software, or manufacturing processes helpful.
-Prior model railroad industry, hobby retail, manufacturing, or product development experience a plus.
Some domestic travel may be required, with the possibility of international travel.
This is a full-time, in-house position based in Hillside, NJ. Benefits include 401(k), vacation/personal time, and healthcare insurance. Salary commensurate with experience.

Wow, I would have liked to find this 20 years ago! I think I am qualified with everything but the CAD part.
