To win an auction on eBay you must bid on the item.
There seems to be TWO ways of doing this
1 You can pretend you are at a legitimate public auction and commence trying to outbid some one else. Unlike eBay, the public auctions have dynamic bidding and are over within minutes whereas on eBay the same deal takes days and has a specific closing time
2 As posted previous, another accepted type of bidding is called sniping (placing a bid within the last few seconds) and no matter how anyone thinks of the practice, it is a legitimate bid
Now I don't see what else there is to discuss here, you can bid one way or the other or not at all, eBay will be happy, the seller will be happy, in fact the only ones unhappy will be those who wanted the item but didn't bid enough.
