Don't you read what the shipping price is when you bid on something? You agreed to pay the shipping fee when you bid on it, then you win it and bitch about it and leave negative feedback? Even though the shipping was high you got nothing to complain about. If I knew what your Ebay name was, I would block you in a heartbeat. If you don't like the shipping cost, DON'T BID ON IT. With all the fees ebay charges it hardly pays to sell anything on there anymore,and with guys like you throwing negative feedback out like it is candy really makes me not want to sell on ebay anymore.
Mainly because I think they couldn't prevent their use even if they tried.
They are one reason why I won't ever buy anything from ebay. Between rip off artists, Paypal, bidding programs and the fact it's helping to drive LHS's out of business they could shut ebay down completely and I wouldn't complain.
While there are a fair amount of new items on ebay, there are a lot more out of production kits and locos on ebay. Stuff your LHS cant or wont carry and can otherwise only be found at estate sales or flea markets.
Ebay has its place for those items, and like it or not, will thrive on them!!
I agree with you in principle, but do you think it's right for people to artificially inflate shipping charges to offset the fees? I sell quite a bit on Evilbay and don't inflate my shipping charges. It shows in my positive feedback and i think that sometimes i can make a little more on an item because i don't inflate shipping. If you don't like the fees on Fleebay, don't sell there.

The first thing I look at on an item is shipping. If they won't ship flat rate USPS, I don't bid or buy. Shipping on several packs of decals for example, should never be more than the postage and price of the envelope they are sent in.
This is the way I bid, and because of the research I've done, or personal knowledge of the item, believe it or not, I've lost only 5%-10% of what I bid on. You guys can have your sniping programs, your multiple items, etc. I bid only on certain things. Only occasionally, and I do win about 90%-95% of what I bid on. You have to be very smart to work an auction, and I've worked auctions of all types, since I was young. E-bay is no different. The last sentence is extremely good advice, but realistically, it should be the sellers hype and not E-bay.
PS; Ive never had a bad experience on E-bay. Never.
It sho0uldn't **** you off. You should do it yourself. I've done that many time because I don't pay a percentage of th shipping costs. Onyl hte sale price. I've even put stuff up with $50 shipping, just wanting to sell the item for $5.

Now I've gotten 30 of these cars over the years (and renumbered them all!) and have paid some hefty prices, like 30-40 bucks before(with shipping) but this takes the cake,especially when you cansider the kit was $7.50 when it was new!!

eBay charges the final value fee on both the item price AND the shipping to prevent abuse. There really is no need to inflate the shipping price since it's all the same. If someone is inflating the shipping price to make it look like the item is less expensive, then they're a scammer in my book and I wouldn't buy from them anyway.
In all cases, I look at the total with the bid price and the shipping added before I make a decision. If it's more than what I am willing to pay, then I won't bid. I always take this into account when bidding so I don't rip myself off.
eBay has it's place. The newer stuff is priced at or near MSRP, then you also have to tack shipping onto the price. So, buying at your LHS is still better than buying on eBay. The people who would pay more on eBay are the people who don't have a LHS nearby or would spend more in gas roundtrip to get to one.

Does anyone know who "blueox2000" is on ebay? I was going to buy some more stuff from him recently but I was blocked The only problem I had with them was (I may have posted this before, so please forgive me if I did) I bid on a Walthers 89' TOFC kit, what I received was a 75' TOFC kit, all I did was mark that the item wasn't the one described. No big deal, I didn't even care!
About a day later he sends me a message stating that if I changed the feedback to positive (I didn't give horrible feedback in the first place) he'd send me the correct car with no charge and he hoped to do business with me again. Guess I didn't do business with him again soon enough because now I'm blocked

yeh i agree with you about blocking this guy i had a guy complain about shipping after he won the item he was a jerk, i was desperate to sell the item to get the money so i slashed the shipping in half, but i admit i was a jerk and gave him a half a** packing job, not my norm.

I agree, tho I don't care for using ebay for my trains (bigger chance I am getting something that will have issues and won't be able to return it) there are a few times I will use it, especially if its for trains that are hard to find or that I can't find here (German trains for example) and then I go for what I want, just reciently I did get some what lucky and snatched up 11 cars for $40.49 yea its a bit expencive but I figured out the cost to about $3.680 per car ($4.0 if you want to round it) so yea I would say thats still a great score for me...
It's disheartening to me to see the number of people here who sell on ebay who seem to view the client as a constant troublemaker. The key to success in any business is customer service and I don't care what the business is.
Every time I read observations abut doing things like packing poorly intentionally makes me cringe. It keeps me away from ebay for the most part even though by and large the service is actually pretty good. You just have to be clear about the value of the item in the first place, then the cost of the item plus the shipping. This should not be rocket science and doing your due diligence is common sense. The seller in turn has the responsibility of listing the item accurately and honestly. Setting a mental limit on your bid and then sticking to it is pretty important. No one ever "Wins" anything on ebay.

Its all about the feedback score guys. I buy and sell lots of items on ebay and the thing that most infuriates me is high shipping. Especially because I KNOW what it costs to ship it because I sell so much with Ebay. I"m an N scaler and just about anything will fit into the Small Flat Rate box from USPS(which they provide for free) for $5.35 if you do it online. I routinely see sellers charge 8-9 dollars to ship these same items. Also for those of you that are skeptical about Ebay please remember that many hobby shop owners sell on Ebay and have legitimate businesses but either can't afford or don't want utilize a separate website of their own. Ebay makes an attractive package if you want to get up and running fast without a lot of cost up front.
