ICG/SOU

HO & O (3-rail) trainman
Sorry, but I have to ask. I know that some O scale freight cars (Atlas O, for example) will allow you to convert a 3-rail car to two rail, by exchanging trucks and adding couple boxes/draft gear to the bodies. What I would like to know is if the reverse is possible.

There is a caboose I've been looking for, and on E-bay, I can only find it in its 2-rail version. Would it be possible to convert it to 3-rail, or would it be better for me to buy a 3-rail undecorated and decorate it myself?

Thank you for your help. :)

Are we talking tubular three rail here? If so, getting the three rail version and doing your own painting will be the better alternative. If it's T section three rail, you should be able to swap out the trucks and couplers just like going from three rail to two rail but in reverse.

I didn't think there was a difference, but I run Lionel Fasttrack on my O layout, which is tubular, as opposed to solid rail.

Originally, I didn't think I could get a hold of O scale ICG caboose decals (but I can) without having to make my own. The only thing that has limited me is the cost of an undecorated 3-rail O scale Atlas O widevision caboose is the same price as a factory done ICG 2-rail O scale Atlas O widevision caboose. It'd be nice is undec cars didn't cost the same as decorated ones.

YES you can convert the 2 rail car to 3 rail. Remove the kadee style knuckle coupler and trucks.... buy Atlas 3 rail trucks with coupler and install. Done deal.

I do this all the time, convert 2 to 3 and/or 3 to 2. Either way it can be done and is very easy.

I have a couple of Walthers 4,427 cuft PS-2 Covered hoppers that I would like to put MTL trucks on ...

I have the same question for the Deluxe Innovations 2-bay hoppers ...

Does anyone know which replacement trucks would be correct for these models?

thanx in advance

Gordon
