What control system do you use?

  • Conventional DC, not interested in DCC

I dusted off my decades old N scale layout, had my #3 son help move it back downstairs (for easy access). Have to rewire most of it anyway and decided to try DCC. A Bachman ad sparked this train of thought. I did my on research and went Digitrax. It was a very bumpy road at first. My new Zephyr Xtra s missing the critical terminal strip. Made make-shift connections via molex connectors till I got a REAL terminal strip. I fried a few decoders, but overall its going fine. I have converted dozens of old pre-DCC locos and a few DCC ready as well. I even put sound in 2 steamers, a AC12 cab forward & N&W J class #611, love it! Today I just finished making a portable (battery powered) amplified sound unit. It was ipod like external amp-speaker (cheapo clearance item) thingy. I put a Digitrax loco decoder /sound in it. I can connect it to running track for use and programming track to set the ID. I just set it to the loco ID I want to add sound to. I continue to use DC for parts of my system. I have an automated trolley system I made decades ago (still works) and RDC line, a mountain oval that is DC only. I have some trackage that is switchable (using DPDT) between DC & DCC. JD
 
About 5 years ago while on a visit to New York I bought an NCE Power Pro 5 amp system after being on DC for many years.
Best decision I ever made & wouldn't dream of going back.
Where I live there are no Model Railway/Railroad modellers & no model shops so everything has to be bought through the internet.
I love DCC & find it so much easier that my old DC setup.
