Anyone watchin Dirty Jobs tonight? All about building locomotives! Very intresting. Mike Rowe SHOULD have been the host of Extreme Trains!

What kind of engine was that? The one he helped disassemble. Looks like a 2 stroke diesel by the ports in the cylinders but had valves and springs at the top of the "power pack assem".

That was a good episode for sure. Mike is a pretty lucky guy to have the opportunity to do so many things. He looked pretty excited, and nervous, about operating the train at the end too.

The loco he was driving was MPI MP36PH-3C #504 for the Northstar commuter-rail line that is starting up in MN.

BNSF owns the trackage and loco's and will be operating the loco's. Metropolitan Council owns the coach's.

The line runs from Big Lake MN to Minneapolis MN. They will extend the line north/west to Rice Mn thru St Cloud MN at a later date. The Northstar will connect to the Lightrail that runs from the Mall Of America to the new Twins Ball Park.
