diameter of typical harbor pilings

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. ymmv I would decide how it looks to me visually. Have not worked in 1/87th in decades. I'm no expert so I'd decide what prototype are you following... Example: I'm thinking for my use on a small wharf/dock on a small river for "backwoods" flavor. Pilings can go larger or be doubled or both on coastal docks or in harbors. Are you thinking ore barges or other bulk transport?

I do hAve some 90 foot barges. As long 1/8” piles don’t look cartoonish, I’m fine. I’m modeling a once robust Harbor that is less profitable now. With the depression and WW II in the rear view mirror, the town is trying to find its way again to profitability in the post-war rising economy. Btw, this is my first layout, started at age 70.

So, HO scale
3/16" max
16" real world
do NOT taper top.
They are driven into the silt with BFH hitting the fat end
skinny end down
